'01 electric cooling fan relay

we own a 2001 laredo, straight 6. havent had much problems as we've only had it since december. wife went to work this morning and when she cut the engine off she noticed the electric fan was still running. came back out an hour later and the battery was completely dead so apparently it never shut off. it has the max cooling package so i disconnected the electric fan and its running off only the mechanical clutch fan. i suspect the relay, seems most obvious. where is it exactly and how do i get to it? pic in haynes manual isnt much help, guy at dealer said he thought they pulled the passenger headlight to change it but i did that and dont see it. anyone know how to get to it? any thing it might be besides relay? thanks!

I would suspect the relay also. The module is there, behind the headlight-tough to get to.

There are 2 ways to replace that , 1. remove the bumper cover/grill to gain access, or 2. remove the pass. headlamp assmbly and get to it that way. Either way it is in a hard to reach spot.

Re: '01 electric cooling fan relay

i tried the headlight trick with my 99 cause my relay did the exact same thing. the bumper is the only way. i haven't attacked that project yet but i need to do it before summer. the mechanical fan doesn't do so well when it's 90 outside and going 3mph in traffic

Re: '01 electric cooling fan relay

Dude I have already done it on my 99. The fan stopped working and it overheated. Save yourself a huge headache of a job and just cut a 1" hole in your headlight socket after you pull the light out. Then when you are done just put a plastic plug in the hole and rtv seal around it. When the headlight is back in you will never even notice it.

Re: '01 electric cooling fan relay

Removing the bumper fascia is the way to go . Makes for easy access to the relay.
