Re: 99 Sunfire misses at idle speed

Hey,

Have you found a solution to the problem? I have recently purchased a used 2000 sunfire with the 2.2, and I noticed the same symptoms. I hooked the car up to my OBDII scanner, and I noticed that the ignition timing stays at around 15 deg while the car is in "Park", no matter how high you rev the car!!!

If you put the car in any gear and drive it, the timing shifts accordingly up to 35deg. So, while driving the car does not miss. Idleing while in gear results in timing around 16-18deg, and then the car does not miss. So, does anybody out there know if the ECM is supposed to hold the timing at 15deg when the car is in park?

Also, maybe the miss is actually a detonation when there is only 15deg timing due to high carbon buildup in the cylinder. I dunno. Does someone out there have a scanner? If you do, please check what your idle timing is when you are in Park, and when you are in gear.
