89 amary/ethanol usage

Hey all,

Just read another article about the rising cost of gasoline because the speedy usage of ethanol to be use maybe nation wide. Question, will my 89' Camary burn this corn based gasoline with no problems? I have a California car.

Re: 89 amary/ethanol usage

Most cars built in the last 25 years are designed to run on up to 10% ethanol. You may use this blend of 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol and the only drawback is your fuel mileage might suffer just a bit. Ethanol does not produce as much energy when it is burned when compared to 100% gasoline. You may not use E85 which is 85% ethanol. Your car is not designed to run on it.

Mike,

Many thanks for your swift reply. I keep hearing/reading the price of California gasoline keeps going up due to the mad rush to begin using ethanol (corn gas). It's my assumption that although it's use mainly in the midwest it'll soon become a national product in our gasoline from now on soon. In my 89' Camary I just inherited from my mom who pasted away I have allot of maintenance to catch-up on. You name it cuz it needs the service. I intend to keep it as it saves me allot of gas so I was wondering about it's consumption. Again thanks for the reply and wish me luck in the maintenance. I expect to see a good thousand dollars spent.
