Brake Problem please help

I have a 1998 windstar and I having a problem every time I step on the brakes to stop, the front left brake will make a thump noise and then a clicking sound sill start right after. But it will not happen when I pump the brakes my brakes and easy the van to a stop. I took it to a Midas shop; they took a good look around and found nothing. I told them I changed a hydraulic motor mount, anti sway bar strut bushing, new rotors and brake pads, and still no help. Please help.

Hello

This sounds like the bushing in the subframe. This bushing is pressed/peened in to the subframe and over time it gets loose. I've had two Fords do this to me. This bushing holds the strut rod for the lower control arm. Take a look at the link in my signature. That contains pictures from a member of this forum which has a picture of the bushing.

This bushing can be welded.

Regards

Dan

Re: Brake Problem please help

I found out what it was, and you will not beleive what it is, it turned out that it was the speed sensor that was causing the problem. The right speed sensor was bad, and the left sensor was working and causing the thumping sound on the left side. jBecause it controls the anti-lock brakes, the speed the van is going and the pressure coming from the master cynider.
I would not have guessed that. Way to go Ford.
