Good repair manuals
I went to Autozone today to get a repair manual for my car, and was not impressed by the chiltons/haynes. They seemed very generic, with poor pictures. I'm looking at buying a copy of the ford shop service manual off Ebay (CD containing Taurus/Sable and others) like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem Do these have good pictures and instructions? I've finally gotten sick enough of hearing my wheel bearing make lots of noise and am ready to attempt the repair. I wanna make sure I do it right though, leaving little to guesswork. If anyone has used one of these CD manuals, let me know how good they are. Thanks! |

Re: Good repair manuals
I have what appears to be a very similar CD-ROM and have been very pleased with the amount of information on it. What I have is the factory service manual from Ford. Finding some information is a bit tricky and may not be filed where I expect it to be, but after I search long enough, I've always been able to find the procedures/schematics, etc that I've been looking for.
Another option I've been pleased with is the AlldataDIY online service manual. The procedures, diagrams, and schematics are the same as on the CD-ROM I have, but it also comes with full TSB details. A one-year subscription to AlldataDIY runs around $25. I think either route you choose to go, you'll be pleased with. -Rod |

Re: Good repair manuals
I bought a factory service CD manual (from ebay) for my '99 Taurus and '01 Windstar and have been happy with them.

Re: Good repair manuals
I too got a subscription to the alldata service, for both of my older cars.
Provides good advice, granted not as many pictures as some of the other manuals, but it is aligned towards the more technically inclined. Even includes factory part #'s so you can cross reference. It has already helped me with a couple of repair jobs, bot for the Ford and the Jag I own. Do the CD-Roms include pictures ? Would consider one for $25 ish. |
