94 Taurus AXOD-E transmission troublem.
I have a 94 Taurus GL 3.0L with AXOD-E transmission. (Yeah, yeah... I find out how bad it is from reading other posts in this forum) Recently, the transmission has gone bad just like many others, after I had about 85,000 miles put on the car. Since I am a graduate student, living on a tight budget, I went with the cheapest way to try to fix it. That is purchasing a used AXOD-E transmission and had some mechanic to install for me. As soon as the work is done, we find the new transmission has no reverse. The car seemed ok when going forward. Before installation, all the seals and the filter in the transmission are change, also new fluid was put in. Can any one tell whether this is a problem with the used transmission or the installation? I have 6 month replacement warranty on the used transmission. I appreciate your advice.

Re: 94 Taurus AXOD-E transmission troublem.
If no reverse, any codes??? Check engine light will not necessarily be on, you have to check the continous memory... I have owned Taurii(credit Shorod with that one) since 1987, even with their notoriety I wouldn't think of owning any other car, my 94 trans, ax4s, was just replaced. first trans that ever went bad on me in 30 years of driving, cost me near 1900 dollars with some extras, new rear oil seal, couple of trans mounts, few other pieces.. I wouldn't jack around, unless they can drop the pan and fix it from there, or the trans range selector, maybe also called mlps, is out of adjustment, I'd have them replace it with a known good rebuilt one, one from a wrecker car is not a known quantity.. Who wants to keep pulling trans out of their car??

I would go for a rebuilt transaxle. As long as the car is still in good shape, it should be worth.
