93 del sol starting prob

I took the engine and tranny out of a 93 del sol type S the other day to fix a third gear syncro problem and install a new clutch. The car does not start anymore. There is gas and air, but no spark. I tested for spark by grounding the plug and cranking the car. There is a new distributor cap and rotor, new plug wires. No fuses are blown. The ignitor tested bad at autozone, so i got a new one of those too. Any advice?

did you put the motor back *in*? lol sorry.. couldn't resist.

Did you double check to make sure your plug wires are in the right order? It can be a pain if you get them backwards, or if your distributor is in, but in the wrong position. Try turning your distributor forward (not a whole lot.. use the little slots that it screws in with, and turn the whole thing forwards). That will advance your timing. When I replaced my dizzy in my old car, I had it in but turned all the way back, the timing was so retarded (yes that's the correct term) that the car wouldn't start. Turned the dizzy back towards the front of the car and she started with no probs.

I made sure to mark on the dizzy where to mount it so i wouldnt have to mess with the timing. After a new ignitor didnt work i was out of ideas (because the coil checked out) so i got a new dizzy and coil. After a new distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, coil, and ignitor - the car started.

I talked to two people at different places that said even though the coil's resistance checks out it could still be broken.

In any case, the car runs now. =)

well that's good to hear... and by the way, it's just a del Sol S.... it's not an S type, Type S, or any of that crap. It is an S model. You drive an 83whp go cart. Don't try to make it out to be something that it's not.

An 83 whp go kart? There is nothing i want more. =D The less technology and computers - the more purely mechanical mechanisms there are the more enjoyment i get out of driving it.
