Smile 99, MAF was flaky-here's my symptoms

Occasional slight hesitation on takeoff, more often in warm weather. No codes, so I just lived with it, waiting for a failure.
Recently at a stop, it idled real low, then jumped up, then low again. eventually it died. After a few of these restarts and dying, the service light came on. I limped it home, it was occasionally cutting out temporarily at high speed.
Code was P0102. Cleared the codes.
At idle it would occasionally get in the same oscillation: 600rpm then 1500 rpm back to 600 , 1500, etc and die. When it wasnt doing this it ran evenly.
Eventually threw another P0102.
On scan tool I saw whenever the MAF reading was 2 gm/sec the RPM would oscillate, and dying, when MAF was 4 or 5 it idled correctly. One time during one of the bad running jags, the MAF reading jumped to 278 gm/sec thats when it threw a P0102.
I replaced MAF, and its running better than it ever has.

Re: 99, MAF was flaky-here's my symptoms

Thanks for the info, my 97 has been doing about the same thing but only once per trip at 3/4 temp and then only at low rpm. If I hit highway right away then no problemo. Have not got any ses light yet and buick dealer said nothing wrong.
