91 4x4 Jimmy Body Mounts!!!!

Hey guys i just purchased a 91 GMC S-15 Jimmy SLE 4x4 and a couple days after buying it i sadly found out that my front two cab body mounts have rusted right through the buldge of metal that they are suppose to be holding up and the tops of the bolts to the mounts have came right through the cab floor boards... WHAT DO I DO NOW?!! Can i just jack up the cab, take off the mounts and weld a new peice of steal where the old one was?? or just let the cab bounce around on the frame and if i get into an accident or go 4 wheeling have the cab fall off and the engine and frame keep right on going? Any other ideas??

Re: 91 4x4 Jimmy Body Mounts!!!!

That sucks dude, alot. My Jeep YJ did the same thing, ALL the mounts punched through, the cab was so rotten it was held together only by rust. I sold the jeep in the end. How bad are the rest of yours? Best case scenerio you jack it up, weld in GOOD steel (make it a WIDE patch so you know it is holding onto GOOD metal and not more rust) run a bead of weld around the patch and some spot welds in the "body" of the patch if it's of decent size. Make sure the patch sits the same height as the old mount otherwise your cab will be put into a twist which can offset alot of things, cause alot of problems, and eventually make other stuff break. It's a big job, well at least it was a big job for me on my YJ and everything was easy to get at on that beast, these jimmy's (well my 98 anyways) are a whole other game. Good luck, and like I said, check the rest of them and decide "is it worth fixing this if the rest of the tub is rotten?", it -will- need to be fixed to be safe to drive, but maybe it might be time to fix it and sell it before the rest of the rust catches up with you, I know it sounds extreme, but I just went through this with my beloved jeep.
