ML 430 Oil Loss

I have a ML430 with 85,000 miles. The dealer changed the oil over to Mobil One several years ago. I now lose a quart of oil every 1500 miles. Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks.

I have the same problem with my ML430, sometimes I have to add more than a quart to fill to capacity. I have not had it checked out yet
but I will when I have to take it in for service. I really do enjoy the car, but little things like this annoy's me.

ML 430 oil loss due to Mobil One

They found some orfices that we clogged with sludge. So far after 500 mile there is not any oil loss. There is a problem with sludge due to oil mixing with the new synthethic. Did you get the letter from Mercedes of the settlement? Check with your dealer and ask him about the settlement. You will get an extended warranty of 150,000 miles or 10 years if problems arise due to sludge. Also a $ 35 discount for your next service.

Curious ... my wife drives a 2000 ML 320 with ~90K miles by now.

We seem to have the same problem: For the last year and half, I had to add 1 QT of oil for every 1000-1500 miles.

This not only screws up the "next service due" computer", it also appears extremely high to me. So we just had the dealership run an "oil consumption test" for 660 miles - after which they stated that everything was normal ...

I'm not really convinced and a good bit surprised that this is supposed to be "normal".

Any thoughts? - Thx.

They rebuilt the engine after several tests and their is no oil consumtion now. They switch over from oil to synthectic. They never admittted to this problem....but did fix it at no charge.

What years are we talking about? I just bought a 2000 ML430 with 60K miles and my understanding is it came with Mobil 1 from the factory? Does this special warranty apply to me as well?

Re: ML 430 Oil Loss

As far as I know, the warranty is only for the 98 ML's. This was because MB did not recommend synthetic oil for the first year of the ML and oil loss issues were arising. The repair was to replace the rings in the engine under warranty. The repair was only authorized after 3 documented cases of oil loss for your car. After 98, all Mercedes are FSS and synthetic oil has to be used. The dealer however may goodwill any repair they choose no matter what the year or problem, so if you don't have a 98 and still have an oil loss problem, it can't hurt to ask. It's funny, I had to try to get MB to goodwill a oil loss problem once. Their answer...One quart every 1000 miles is acceptable oil loss. Well the only problem was at that time, oil was to be changed every 7000 miles, If the car holds 6 quarts, then it would be out of oil completely in 6000 miles!!! They didn't have an answer for that one.

Re: ML 430 Oil Loss

the dealership will replace the rings for up to 100,000 miles for oil lose, but it has to lose like 1 qt per 600 miles.
