think it might be starter related

My sis has a 1998 crysler sebring convertible. She's had problems on and off with the eniging not turning over and starting. Now, it's dead. Where is the starter located at in this car? The solenoid? How can I check to see if either is bad? Can someone explain the connections/wiring so I can check to see if it's a loose wire/connection and just tape it up or replace the wire.
If that doesn't work, how do I replace the starter or solenoid myself?

Re: think it might be starter related

If you turn the key and it clicks....that's the solenoid working. Can't be specific on your vehicle but my guess is that the solnoid is on the started and is changed as a package. Most vehicles are. Follow the positive battery lead and it will take you to the solenoid/starter. The unit is typically held by 2 or 3 bolts. Make sure you disconnect the battery before you mess with the connection otherwise you'll may have a wild light show.

Re: think it might be starter related

I am having this problem too. I took my car to a auto parts store and they can hook it up to a machine and tell you. I was told that you cannot drive it alot before you take it there or the metor will tell you that it is fine. There are two bolts that connect it and I have found a remanufactured one for $119 + $65 core charge at advance auto parts, I am changing mine tomorrow with the help of a manual and I have been told by my dad who is a mechanic that it should only take about 45 min. good luck and I would recommend getting a manual.
