weird sound when making turns
Hello,
I have a '99 villager and noticed it makes a weird sound when I'm making turns, more so when making a right turn. The sharper the turn the louder the sound. The sound is like a squeel but with a very low pitch...It's the same sound you expect to hear when pushing a table and it skids againt the floor. Any idea what it might be? The drive axle boots worn out, could it be the axle is going bad and need replacement. Regards, Eddie45 |

Folks,
I decided to replace my '99 villager's driveaxles on myself… at least just to learn something new. I removed the brake caliper, brake disc, and driveaxle hub nut. The Haynes repair manual is not very clear on a few issues, and my questions are: -1- Do I need to drain the transmission fluid? -2- Do I need to disconnect the tie-rod from the steering arm? -3- Do I need to remove the strut assembly from the steering assembly (which is held be two strut-to-knuckle bolts)? -4- when the driveaxles are ready to come out, are their end points first pushed through the wheel hub and then pulled out away from the vehicle? Any help here (or extra comments) would be appreciated -Eddie |

Re: weird sound when making turns
1,3,4 do not do. the axle slides out if you push the disc and strut assembly out of the way. you need to remove the ball joint for this to happen. if it is the right side you need to remove the two upper/inner axle mounting screws as well.

Now there is one other sound I need to figure out. Which is similar to engine reving up at every half a second. This is not easily noticed, but becomes more obvious the faster I go. The car speed remains steady and the rpm indicator does not continually fluctuate, so I'm not sure if the sound is coming from the engine or not. |

Re: weird sound when making turns
Check the current at the tps sensor. Also the egr valve hose.

Re: weird sound when making turns
What do I use to check the current and what should it be?

Re: weird sound when making turns
I checked the voltage and the resistance at the TPS as indicated by the manual. There was no reference voltage whatsoever. Therefore, according to the manual the PCM is either bad or shorted. Now, the van still runs almost ok except for the feeling that its reving up and down intermittently as I drive down the road. If the PCM was indeed bad or shorted, I would've expected the van to not work at all, but it still runs. Is this possible? Also, where do I check for possible shorting?

Re: weird sound when making turns
I would have to go with the TPS as being faulty. Try some fuel injector cleaner. It may clean any carbon build up that is giving you a false reading and if you have no codes you have no electrical probelm with either or at least not out of range.

Re: weird sound when making turns
Question: your Info may apply in my case, 94 rough idles, stalls, etc, would you reccomend changing the tps before the PCM? I put an used IAC valve on & it ran good for a while then back to stalling.
