its a 1992 civic hatchback dx.. stock engine 1.5L

heres what happened.. i had an alpine deck in my car, and i sold it for a kenwood mp3 player. so my car was radioless for about 4 days, and there were loose wires hanging out of that slot. all the wires were snipped, so i figured nothing would touch, but by chance the ground and the power touched for a sec. and that was it.. car ran fine and started fine for a few more days until today when i am installing the kenwood..

i knew that i blew the radio fuse, so i used my spare 15amp on that, got everything in.. turn the key to the "on" position, and my check engine light remained on!!! and i was like great.. tried to start the car... and nothing.. it was trying but it wasnt catching..it was like i was out of gas, and it was just trying and trying to start up.. but wouldnt..

so thinking the problem was electrical i went to the underhood fuse box and checked everything, and i noticed that the 7.5amp labeled "backup" was blown.. because the previous owner had stuck a 10amp in there.. so i stole the 7.5amp from the under dash fuse box labaled "interior light" i figure i can go without that for a while.. and still.. NOTHING!! the car wont start.. i am totally confused! it quite literally happened out of no where! the check engine light just came on! anyone know how to make the light flash to show the code? i am at a loss! any clues!! help me!! help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's in the FAQ as usual. You say the engine TRIED to turn over but didn't. So the battery and starter are fine? It might be fuel or spark but before you assume, check the dang codes.

I think its has to do with the altenator....if the engine is not turning over and its attempting to it might be the alt.

if you have a charger put it on the charger for a night if it starts its not the alt thats easy. also if someone jumps you off it should start if its the alt. I have had 3 cars with alternator problems.
