side mirrors and door lock
both mirrors are very loose; they move when the doors are opened and shut; can't find out how to tighten; any suggestions or information?
another small problem is the door lock on the passenger side only; it sounds like a goose. can't open from the inside except when the door lock is activated and it will then allow the slide to be pushed and the door opens. Can anyone help? This is a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Last edited by pricecb; 03-20-2006 at 03:12 PM. |

Re: side mirrors and door lock
My 2000 has the same "goose" sound on the actuator on the driver's door. I'm thinking I'll be replacing that unit pretty soon.
I'm not sure about the mirror as I haven't had the chance to look at it during the day; but the attachment points may be on the inside, so taking the door panel off for the actuator and tightening the mirror at the same time might be a good idea.

Re: side mirrors and door lock
My wife's 99 had the same issue with the mirrors. The dealer said the only fix was a new mirror, and this is a mechanic that I trust.
I drilled a small hole from the bottom of the mirror casing up through the "arm" or mount and put a stainless steel screw in each mirror. No more moving, but they don't fold either (which matters not at all to us!) |
