Question 1997 Legacy GT keyless help

I've searched this forum and can't find what I need. I bought a replacement remote for the keyless system and would like some help in programming it. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

John

Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote
Open driver's door.
Turn ignition key to 'On'
Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard)
After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button
Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time.
Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off.

Hi Chris,

The battery of my 1997 Legacy GT died a few days ago. After putting a new battery, the car won’t start without holding the programming button. The alarm does not work - no sound, no reaction when I press any of the buttons on my remote.
I tried your instructions. With the ignition key turned to ‘On’, the door locks are quiet no matter how long I hold the programming button.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Thomas
