bmw televisions
I have a television monitor that is factory in my 750il but, I only get sound (no picture). I have heard that this is because there are laws in the U.S. against having a t.v in the dash . Does anyone know about this and if their is a way to fix it?

you have been correctly informed. BMW -NA disables the TV while the car is in motion for legal liability reasons. This can be cheated on some versions of the software and hardware, but I don't have the TV/NAV in my E38 so I can't tell you the exact steps. I'd try searching for TV while driving posts to find out what you can do. If you can't use the cheat for your particular TV module, then there is a company that specializes in changing the TV tuner to allow this feature. www.nav-tv.com
good luck, John |

I have been looking for the fix for some time and saw this and it works. It was a real bind not being able to see the pictures but now I can !!
This tip came from BMWWorld.com Watch TV / Videotext during driving This works on all 5/7 Series with the Mk. I Navigation System (the one with the male voice). On Mk II (the newer version with the female voice) you have to use "brightness" instead of contrast for TV and "color" instead of brightness for videotext to get the trick to work. I know that the trick works on latest 99 7series models as well. But I heard also that some cars sold into the US do not have any TV equipment on board. You will notice this as they do not have any TV option in the main menu. Also latest BMWs sold in Europe (2000 onward, 3/5/7 series) have the trick disabled! The only chance to get the TV running is somewhere hidden in the menu of the BMW Sevice Tester DIS. But up to now I can't thell you where. If I ever find it out, I'll post it here! As far as I know the software update for latest navigation CD Roms does not affect or disable this trick. Set ignition to pos. II enter TV mode enter "settings" enter "contrast" when the green contrast bar is visible, push the knob and keep it pressed turn ignition off (keep button pressed!) wait 8-10 seconds (timing must be accurate!) release the knob turn on ignition again Now you can watch TV during driving (but always keep at least one eye on the road - that said) To watch videotext use the same procesure as above, but chose"brightness" instead of "contrast" (thanks to my friend Herbert Posner, who discovered this secret). |

E39 5series 2000mdl MK2 System
Hi,
I have the MK2 system(femail Voice) can anyone out there confirm the procedure required for "Video in motion" I really want to be able to activate this, I read here that I need to adjust the Brightness instead of contrast which I will attempt. Set ignition to pos. II enter TV mode enter "settings" enter "brightness" instead of "contrast" when the green "brightness" contrast bar is visible, push the knob and keep it pressed turn ignition off (keep button pressed!) wait 8-10 seconds (timing must be accurate!) release the knob turn on ignition again Thanks for anyone who can confirm or give accurate instructions on this process David |

Re: E39 5series 2000mdl MK2 System
Unfortunately this trick does NOT work. I have tried it with E38 both male and female voice units. This kind of "trick" is just a hoax as the units have to be programmed via the diagnostic head. To whoever dreamt this up: Thanks for wasting my time.

Re: bmw televisions
This absolutely does work!!!! Thanks so much for posting that trick. I have a 1997 740il with the TV option, and the audio worked, but the video did not. I tried this sequence and it worked the first time. I was just watching the Alabama/UCLA game in my car a few minutes ago. AWESOME! Thanks again for the post. |
