Replaced the temp sensor

but it will only work for maybe a day or two only if I reset the computer.. By removing the battery cable for 15 mins.. Then after the day or so it goes back to not working... I've made sure the connection is on good and that when I screwed the sensor on to leave enough metal to metal contact so it could ground itself... Got any clues?

That is the worse location for a thermostat. It is a PITA. I removed the throttle body and cover over the exhaust crossover pipe when we installed the 180. Others claim they did it without any hassle.

Man I really don't feel like doing all that for a freaking thermostat.. Man I remember my '79 Ford LTD with a good ole 305 or was it 302... It was so freaking easy to do anything... Why did/do they make it so freaking hard to do everything even something as easy as changing the thermostat.... How does the computer know that my thermo is bad and makes it not read a temp?

On a side note I have to add like a quart of oil to my car like every week and mainly rely on the Add Oil light.. Hadn't seen it for awhile so I go to fill up my tank and decide to check it out.. Didn't get anything on the stick... I ended up adding 3 quarts....

I can see why the 3.4 has been discontinued. The PCM monitors the engine temp through the ECT sensor. If it gets really bad it should throw a DTC error code and SES light. The thermostat is a common problem on the 3.4.

Oil every week??? Do you see blue smoke out the exhaust? If not it is being consumed somewheres inside the engine or leaking to the outside.

Well I do have the SES light on even though the code was for the part I replaced.... But no I don't see any smoke, it may smoke for a split second when I start the car or when I put the pedal to the metal (which I rarely do now)

I recall it was related to low engine temperature so the thermostat is the logical choice.

Thats a lot of oil consumption. How many miles do you have?

alot.. I bought the car Jan '02 and it has 130k on it now... Roughly about 60 miles a day sometimes... I usually fill up from empty 2 times a week...

Yeah, thats a lot but at least you've made it to 130K miles. I think Vamc (Andrew) has similar mileage on his Alero.

Well I tried gave it a good fight but gave up.. That is just way to much stuff to take off... I took off a couple things but seeing as I had to remove atleast the exhaust pipe to get to the bolt on the bottom.... I wonder how much a shop charges for this...

Don't take it to a dealer but some general automotive shop. Best thing to do is call or go to a few and have them give you an estimate. It shouldn't be that bad in cost.
