I Replaced The Plugs/wires/distributor/rotor. Misfire Code Still Present.also Codes For O2 Sensors Are Present. Could This Be The Problem? Maybe Choil Or A Compression Chk? Misses And Vibrates Pretty Bad. 163k On Eng.

you might go and get your timing reset at the dealership. I had to do that when i shanged the intake manifold gasket. it acted the same way til a friend at the dealership told me what the problem was. took all of about 5 minutes to correct it.

How was it running before wires and plugs?
Check the plug wire firing order.
What is fuel pressure readings?
What kind of plugs did you feed it?
What are all of the code no?
How many cylinders are actually missing?
Have you got good hot blue fire to all cylinders?

They may have done something else But.
The timing is not adjustable on a 96 4.3.
You can turn that dist all day but bit will not change the timing.
It is PCM controlled.

And years of experiance has nothing to do with it or does not mean squat.
If you will notice some people on here have over 45-50 years od experiance.

Well do not get all bent out of shape about. I did not design it that way GM did.
But the timing is not adjustable period. You can set the camshaft retard/offset with a scanner and turning dist.. But it has nothoing to do with timing.
It just centers the distributer rotor to the center of the plug wire terminal.
That is what I was trying to spell out.

Where did you get the plug wires?Cheap plug wires will do that.Pull the didstribitor out and inspect the distribitor gear.A worn out distribitor gear will cause the miss, check the distribitor gear for shiney spots.I have seen this happen,my father bought one but with a 350 that had a miss from a car auction.Pulled the distribitor out and found the distribitor gear was worn out.Put a new distribitor gear on,the miss was gone and ran good after that after setting the distribitor with a scan tool, with GM's factory scan tool,Tech 2.My father has a Tech 2 since he does computer work on GMs the most.
