96 lumina 3.1 help

So i got this 96 lumina for free
then found out it didn't have the correct motor
what was reinstalled in the car was a 3.1 from a 95 pontiac grand am, is there a way to make everything work on the motor? it doesn't run and it is throwing about seven(7) check engine codes
if anyone has come across this issue i would be in great graditude of you! if you can give me any help.

thank you in advance!!

These engines have different pcms to start with, harnesses may be different also.

Re: 96 lumina 3.1 help

If the Grand Am motor is a roller rocker arm engine, other than a sensor or two, it should work. If the engine is a ball and pivot style rocker engine, they are not interchangeable, and you will spend more money trying to make it work than the car is worth. A Grand Am PCM will not work in your Lumina.

Re: 96 lumina 3.1 help

I am not sure what the differences are between a roller rocker arm and a ball and pivot style. is there a way i can tell by looking at the thing?
and do you know what sensors i could change if i do have the correct one?

Re: 96 lumina 3.1 help

Externally, you can't tell. You'll have to pull a valve cover and look at the rocker arm. If it has roller bearings in the center where it pivots, it's a roller type and if not, it's a ball and pivot type. Sensors that may need to be changed are the CTS, oil pressure switch and TPS.
