Oil Pan Replacement - expensive?
Our 98 Beetle ran over a log, and all of the oil emptied out on our garage floor
I'm guessing the oil pan was punctured. Is this a major $$ repair? What can I expect? thx |

Re: Oil Pan Replacement - expensive?
According to my Haynes manual and from visual inspection it's simply a matter of removing the splash tray and undoing all the bolts holding the pan to the block - not rocket science and no special tools needed. Then you need to source a new sump if thats what was damaged - they're made of alloy and would cost $$$ new but maybe you can get one from the wreckers. So in theory the cost would be made up of one new sump, a sump gasket, 5 litres of oil and a new filter. Alloy sumps can be welded by some mechanics depending on how bad the damage is. Good Luck.

Re: Oil Pan Replacement - expensive?
Update:
I had it done by my mechanic: total $300 ($192 was the part, the rest was labor and oil). Whew.... |
