Red face 1997 Sunfire Pontiac

2.2 Engine. Will crank over and starts then dies immediatly. Have to turn the key back to off and then retry to start. If not turned back it wont even start. New cam and oxygen sensor just installed. New fuel pump. Has plenty of gas in it.

Was running fine. Parked it went back out to start a few hours later and it would not stay running.

Does have remote start installed.

Re: 1997 Sunfire Pontiac

Hey I had the same problem with mine and I also have a remote starter in it (Brand "Bulldog"). After installing the starter and setting the dip switch's on it. (The dip switchs are for the resistance in ohms when starting your car that the factory security system looks for) it would start no problem, then one day the thing would only start once and a while. I called "Bulldog" and they said my car needs a bypass module for the factory security system in the car. I dont know why. I have not done this yet and still have some problems if the starter is used. Maybe your problem is related.

Re: 1997 Sunfire Pontiac

sounds like your anti theft system has been tripped. this is common with command start systems. you simply have to start the car with the key it will start and stall leave it in that position for ten minutes or untill the theft light stops flashing (your theft light may be burnt out if you dont see it) what this is doing is reprogramming the theft computers resistance. once the light has stopped flashing or wait it out at least ten minutes, you just turn the ignition off and start the car. it should stay running now.

Yep the PK2 system has been tripped. You should see the security light flash when you are trying to start it.
