Re: just curious about dexcool

The old "green stuff" gels when mixed with Dex-cool, so it's worse than just making an ugly brown . Other than that, I agree 100% with you MT. Most newer coolant, even if it's greenish, is now compatable and will not gel.

I agree with Rich. The Prestone Extended Life (yellow container) is 100% fully compatible with Dexcool. It is based on the same organic acid technology (OAT), however, is green in color.

But I would flush out as much of the old Dexcool even before using this brand and type of coolant. It is just common sense to do so.

Re: just curious about dexcool

Absolutely Bob, we've discussed this before. As a matter of fact, I believe we both are running the Prestone in our cars now, correct? I'm not a fan of Dex-cool at all, I see too many cooling system problems with Dex-cool vehicles, compared to the same designs prior to Dex-cool. But I also believe, when in doubt, replace what you have with what you have. At least that way, you "should" be ok.

10-4 on the werd about the old green geling when mixed with dex-cool
I have never actualy saw it do it. And I have saw some mixed systems.
Makes stange colors thow.
When they first came out with dex-cool They told us we would have to get seperate water buckets and catch pans for each type of coolant and not even let it touch each other. That one was kind of strange to but I needed a new water bucket anyway.
Years ago they had yellow zerex coolant and the real old green prestone.
But back then if you tryed the real old green prestone it would leak out everyplace even places that did not have a leak.
And the old yellow zerex was good stuff.
Also several years back when the coolant factory that made the silclose or whatever had a big fire all of the coolant you bought right after that would pour out the rubber hoses even with a double clamp on them.

10-4 on prestone new fit all coolant. The yellow jug is strange thow I look in there and the stuff looks yellow and pour it out and it is green.
And I swear it looks like it turns yellow in the coolant syatem.
But good stuff anyway and may be the answer to a lot of problems..

Roger that Rich. I've got Prestone EL in all of my cars except the Alero. Might do that after I get done getting some of the small problems fixed on it.

The best part is the cost. Last gallon of Dexcool I purchased ran me around $20.

But here goes.
ASE gasket certified???
You fell hook line and sinker for that one.
I stated I was certified on rebuilding engines. When an engine is rebuilt intake to oil pan, guess what? The gaskets must be replaced. I thought that went without saying. Your somewhat obtuse rebuttal suggests that you don't seem to understand sarcasm. So I'll let that one go.

Sounds like it makes YOU wonder about things. I'm not sure where you are going with this. I came into this post, trying to give my honest opinion on a question that you didn't even ask. I explained what I had seen to the best of my ability. You you came back and asked for documented proof! What , exactly, is documented proof? Documented by whom? When I pull apart, for example, a 2002 Buick 3100 engine (with the 'new, updated' gaskets) with 80,000 miles, and there is so much corrosion on the the heads and intake that it causes a leak, what else do you want to know? I have seen many this way since the conversion to Dex. It is a plain and simple logical deduction, I tried to make that as clear as possible in my first post. You seem to be after something else. I'm not very emotional about antifreeze, but I do tend to get sore when one questions my integrity for no good reason. In person or on a forum. What are you REALLY trying to prove?

Pressurerat and MT2500 I think both of you have made your point so it is time to move on.
