Stripped Lugnuts HELP
I got a few stripped lugnuts that I dont know how to loosen, there basically stock lugnuts but they have that key that fits inside, there real cheap no name lugnuts, I was so stupid not to replace them when I first got my rims and now im stuck in this position, the lugs themselves are stripped. I tried wrapping some black tape around the key to make it bigger so itll have a tighter fit inside the lug but that didnt work it just stripped the tape, im guessing the only way to loosen it is to use a power gun and maybe its speed might loosen it because the key grabs the inside of the lug just not enough to loosen it, if anyone has any suggestions im open to anything at the moment, thanks.

The pattern on your locking lug nuts is stripped out? Get an impact screwdriver and beat the shit out of them to get them busted loose. An impact screwdriver looks like a regular screwdriver except its all metal and the handle part of it slides up and down, most of them the bit is removeable, take the bit out put it in the lug nut and take a rubber mallet and hit it real hard a couple of times, should shock it enough to loosen its hold.
In the future, don't bother with locking lug nuts, you can buy the key for them at just about any auto parts store. They won't keep anyone from stealing your wheels.

I had this exact same problem almost a year ago.
Unfortunately I had a flat when I found out I couldn't get my wheels off . . . long story that involved an overnight stay in a "Super 8" in Hagerstown, Maryland . . . Anyhow . . . you can try two things: 1 - A chisel. the king that looks like a big allen key on one end, and looks painful on the other end. Put the blade (painful) end into one of your lugs by beating it with a hammer, until it is good and snug. then try to turn the other end with a vise grip or whatever you can find that will work. (If you don't understand what I mean, shoot me an email). 2 - (This is what I ended up doing because option 1 didn't work for me) You can go to a tool store, hardware store, auto store . . . or any combination of the three, and buy a "torx" bit. it is basically a six point impact gun attachment, and it should be able to engage well enough in the lugs to loosen them. In the meantime, make sure you buy some new lugs cause you probably don't want to go through this anymore. I happened to have a package of chrome, small diameter lug nuts that will fit our cars. They are brand new Gorilla lugs . . . with key and registration crap. I was gonna put it up for auction on eBay. E mail me for more info . . . I'll even include the torx bit that I no longer need ![]() I have a paypal account . . . for $40 or so, you can have it all including express shipping. Let me know . . . |
