Angry Grinding nose in the front end

Ok, I just had the rear breaks done about two months ago when they locked up. Now, there is a grinding nose coming from the front end. I live three-six hours from a KIA dealer, not that they could do any better work, and I want to help out the guys who are fixing it. A Chevrolet dealer. I started about a week ago and then went away, now it's back with a passion. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? I know the first guess would be the breaks, but any other then that? HELP!!!!!!

Re: Grinding nose in the front end

..what year? is that a 2WD or a 4WD? WIth 4WD using the vacuum hubs, a "grinding noise" often comes from the hubs when partial vacuum is applied dut to leaking vacuum valve or hubs....so come back with a few more details: does that happen when applying brakes? or at a steady speed? when on 2 or on 4WD.......?

To make ABSOLUTELY sure there is nothing wrong with the hubs themselves(confirm they are vacuum type) I would disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum solenoid and see what happens.

2nd, I'd raise the front end and check for play in the front bearings...if there is any play, braking can swerve the wheel hub relative to shaft and this can change vacuum hub internal clearance.
3rd, front brakes are complained about by a few..like they need frequent overhaul..and pads replacement...and some look for high performance replacement...but most of these people are "serious"..like off road..users....and they take their Sportage where no one would dare...lol I do not know if that applies to daily commuting...

Re: Grinding nose in the front end

It's a 1998 4WD, the entire front end including the 4WD system was replaced two years ago. That was done because the hoses had go bad on the system. It makes the nose when it's not in 4WD, and when the breaks are applyed. It feels like something is catching.
