Question 98 beetle check engine light

98 beetle engine light on and there is a hissing sound coming from the motor

To get rid of the hissing, there is a plug on the left hand sideto the right of your hood latch. You shold be able to unplug a small box and that will stop the buzzing. As for the check engine light there is a problem with that and you will need to get it seviced. I just don't care enough to bother.

hissing sound means vacuum leak.
There is a hissing sound from the intake pipe right after the airbox, this is normal and is due to the design of the intake pipe.

check for the vacuum lines at the passenger side of engine. Check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose (goes from intake manifold on belt side to fuel rail. must remove the engine cover)
