urh, i have a question...

Okey dokey people, i have a serious, legitimate question. What would be the best path for someone around a high school age get deep into the career of motor sport; preferably the 'tin-top," GT style racing. Be it european or japanese cars, what would you actually suggest to someone who doesn't really have any other actual, real "racing" experiance, but fully understands most basic driving/racing techniques? Like an actual path/course of action and/or timeline that would best benifit them.

This is just a little something i was wondering about, so for those of you, and im sure you know who you are, please leave your bs remarks somewhere else. You can get more self esteem to add to what little you have making fun of people at the mall or some shit.

Thank you.

Re: urh, i have a question...

If you're in highschool asking this question, it's already too late.

Blame your parents for not getting into gokart racing when you were 8.

At this point, it takes money, lots of money to get you a ride on a race team. You'll have to go to several big dollar race schools to learn the trade, also competing in SCCA Autox and car class style racing would help.

After all that... you may get a chance to test for your racing license, and then... if you've got any luck at all or skills... you might get picked up.

Or, just have about 5 million dollars and start your own team, get your license and race... then the sponsors would come to you if you're worth two shits.

Seriously.

Re: urh, i have a question...

hmm haha, i figured it would be something along those lines. I'd say im quick to pick up concepts and such, but yeah i guess you can say im 10 or so years behind lol.

But what about those small kart racing legues. like would it be possible to start from there, and get good enough to somewhat get recognized, and somewhat step up from there?

haha thanks for your seriousness, im sure there are like 50 or so guys online right now that would waste my time. Ever since i could remember i've always been a fan of any sort of speed drivin activity. But growing up in the city of Seattle, with not having too much money to play around with before hand somewhat makes it a little difficult (atleast in my eyes lol. im sure im probably wrong).

Re: urh, i have a question...

Racing is a money sport, no two ways around it.

Getting into Karting now would be a good start. I can't garauntee you'll ever get picked up, but you'll at least have fun trying. And that's the point of it all... fun.

My advice is to participate in as many racing venues you can with your own car, autox and forms of club racing through the SCCA and NASA. You'll learn a few things doing that. And as I stated, a reputable racing school (such as Bonderant, Skip Barber, etc.) would do you wonders.

Good luck to ya.

Re: urh, i have a question...

Bonderant isn't too pricey for a school, 5k for a 3 day class and it gives u scca cert. but yeah redneck is right, if your padres didn't put u into go karts when you were little, and they don't own a baseball team. Good luck with the GT series cars unless you have some serious skills we don't know about.

Re: urh, i have a question...

haha well, i wouldn't say im better than those others who have been racing since they popped out of the womb, or that i'd have that great of a chance. but i think have some potential at racing. And of the little karting i've done i've consistantly dropped full seconds off each time i go (its a ligitamate pay and race karting place, with 5 and 8 hp engines). And im not basing my potential just from that, but i've been a fan of GT and such for a really long time. so i have some general knowledge on techniques and such. But yeah, im far more than willing to put my all into it. But i just want to know if i was really going to make this a reality, or come close, what i would have to do, which redneck has already said.

Any other opinions?
