help. auto to manual in 1988 ss

i have an 88 mc ss and i have a 305 with an automatic tranny. last night i got beat by a 1988 mustang because the monte wouldnt shift into 4th quick enough. how hard will it be to change to a manual trans. what is everything i will need to change, or do.

First off, have you made any modifications to your trans? What kind of racing were you doing that you lost by a slow change of gears into 4th?

transmission, change the pedal asm, flywheel, friction plate, slave cylinder, driveshaft length mod, crossmember, mess around with your current floor shifter or cut/remove the plastic cover that surrounds it, along with finding a manual that will hold up. they have the muncie 4 speeds from old malibu's, etc or t-5's from camaros with the v8's that apparently have worked well for many but other than that, it'll cost some $$$ to buy a tko or t-56.
