97 Lumina won't go into Gear or out of Gear

I have a 97 Lumina which decided on the coldest day on the year to not go into gear The night before when I got home had a wee problem getting it into park but after a giggle it was fine ...Next morning got up did all my stuff then stopped at the store after it running for an hour....Put it into drive took off then it started spurtting and died now can't get it out of drive needless to say the Tow truck driver loved me having to be called on a Saturday in -11 degree weather ...
What I am looking for his advice and the Husband is looking for a print out of steering colum the one with tilt wheel...The man can work on older cars but these ones with Air bags and computers but him in a tissy... Would appreciate any help

Try autozone.com/repairinfo, but why did it die in the firsr place that has nothing to do with the shift linkage.

Re: 97 Lumina won't go into Gear or out of Gear

I found that if you pull the shifter close to you then it works. Sometimes for me when I cant get out of the gear, I just let go of it, pull it towards me then shift and it works
