So your LS will crank, but won't start up? Does your car have the V-6 or the V-8?

Have you checked to be sure all vacuum lines are connected and in good shape? Also, make sure the air intake hose is connected and tight.

Do you have a K&N or similar oiled air filter? If so, you may have a contaminated Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensor. If you have a steady hand, some tools, and brake cleaner, you can clean the MAF sensor elements (being VERY careful when doing so) and see if that helps.

Since you mention you can smell fuel, try cranking the engine for a few seconds, then hold the throttle all the way to the floor and crank the engine again. Holding the throttle wide open (Wide Open Throttle - WOT) will turn off the injectors. If the car starts this way, you know that the engine is getting too much fuel. Once the engine starts, slowly release the throttle and see if it will maintain idle and see if the engine will smooth out. You may have an out-of-range coolant temperature sensor or other sensor that is causing the PCM to keep the injectors open too long.

Hey man i dont know if this will help but my car had exact same problem with gas smell and everything. Took it into the shop 3 weeks after looking over everything they found 2 fuel injectors leaking. Replaced injectors started right up.

Mine wouldn't start the one day when it was -20 degrees out, and it was from putting regular fuel in it, started putting premium in it, never had the problem again.
