Stuck in an alright position...

I bought a 96 gst, the turbo shaft walked bad after 2 days. The guy said it was boosted up to 14 lbs.... but still totally stock. IM getting a 3grand loan and about 900 can hit my car... I need a new turbo and some professional Advise. stock turbo? 14b? t4? I dont know. If it was an Rs lol id know. Or like a 350 heh. So yea if you had about 900 to make a car run clean where would you go with it? probably a turbo, controller, fmic? Help me out. I dont want something really really fast close to stock so it can get to school and back in Idaho from texas. So lets not go crazy on the Ideas. Hit it up quick style guys!

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

If you want it to be a headache free replacement just go with the stock t-25. For reletively cheap(I doubt within $900) you could upgrade to a 14B but it would require some supporting mods and tuning. It doesn't sound like that something you want to get into right now so I would stick with the t-25. Get some hard piping for the IC, boost gauge if you dont already have one, intake, airfilter, BOV, exhaust, etc... simple bolt on mods. Hope that helps.

I made my own boost controll out of fish tank stuff . But that is the past now. I actually got all the goods now But headache free YES stay T-25

Yeah but its sounds like he is looking for RELIABLE and EASY, so that rules out a bunch of fabricating.

Off-Topic: How did you tune your ECU to run the bigger injectors required for that 16G????

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

Well then the question arizes... If im going to buy intercooler piping should I just go to a larger FMIC or would I get boost Lag off that stock turbo? Seriously I thought i knew alot of Turbo stuff but IM getting a quick reality check on this car. Mabey keep it stock, then is there a digital boost controller I can tune to that waste gate to keep the boost a little lower that 14 lbs cause Id feel more comfortable running like what 7-9 around town then 14 to eat some ricer. But what can change the boost pressure on the fly, digitally? Apexi or greddy I know both make an electronic one on ebay for about 250ish. And does anyone have an old turbo laying in thier garage rom thier upgrade? Just hit me up, (and o yea if you have one jake just keep that peice of shit you cockface.)

Little hostile are we? First you can run a 14b with no supporting mods just fine, you could even run 16psi no problem, fmic would cost more than just IC pipes but worth it in the long run if you plan on going big. I think my 14b is sold, but if the buyer backs out I'll let you know. Otherwise I could probably get my hands on a 14b or T25 if you want

I had stock injectors at the time, i just kept the boost down a little. It worked just fine and noticed a huge difference over the shit T-25. But now i have DSMLINK and cannot wait to play with it this spring.

I talked to Kevin about it a couple of years ago, he said not to do it unless you are going to do supporting mods for it.

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

I don't see why you cant. A 14b came stock on a 1g and its basically the same setup(injector sizing ect) I was running a 14b with no mods for a long time which isnt a big deal because 1. The stock injectors max out around 30lbs/min and a 14b makes about the same numbers. theoretically you could max out a 14b on a stock 2g because you will never see air flow above 30 lbs/min and the fuel system will handle that, but you would need an intercooler upgrade because at that boost level the turbo would be quite hot

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

I went and dug up the thread where Kevin talked about me swapping in my 14b(which is still sitting in my parents garage). Its up to you, what you want to do.

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

Sounds to me like he said go for it but dont run over 18psi, I know first hand that you can do that since I did it for 6 months with no problem. I cant find it at the moment but someone started a thread about what the could run on a 14b and I believe it was scottsee that said that the stock fuel system can handle anything a 14b can throw at it as long as you keep the intake temps down with a fmic. All I can say is put it on and find out for yourself

Re: Stuck in an alright position...

It sounded like to me that you shouldn't boost it without being able to tune/monitor what was happening. He was also running those psi's with a Supra sidemount which is better than my stock pos. But I would always rather error on the side of caution than not, thus my 14B is on a shelf.

Whatever floats your boat man, not trying to act like I'm telling you what to do or anything. Its smart that you're waiting for DSMlink I'm guessing but I was just telling you that from my experences that it will work just fine
