99 dakota v6 PCM failed

I have a 99 Dodge Dakota SLT 4x4 v6 3.9L

computer diagnostics tell me that i need a new PCM.
its at a friends shop right now.

with a thousand dollar repair in my face, i would rather look at this as a chance to upgrade rather than just replace with some oem part.

im researching, but need help. Theyre going to start on monday. i need ideas.

help!

I don't know if they make a Mopar Performance pcm for the six cylinders, but that's what I'd check for.
