4 Speed Confusion

Just bought a 65 galaxie with 352 or 390(not sure), and 4 speed in the floor. (originally had 6 cyl and 3 speed on the column)
My confusion is the shift pattern...
its like this;


R---1---4
H
----2---3

3rd & 4th is reversed somehow.
That is so wrong, but thats how it shifts.

what has someone done?

Old thread but I reply anyways. First of all I have never seen one like that. But I guess anything can happen. My guess is that someone put in the control arm on the 3rd and 4th gear upside down?
