1988 Grand am quad 4 missing

I have a 88 grand am with the quad 4 that is missing really bad at idle, when you drive it and it revs up it is fine, I have changed the entire cover with the coilpacks and module out, still runs the same. Could it be another sensor or maybee a fuel injector? Also can I retreive the codes without a scan tool?

You don't need a scan tool to retrieve codes on this model. I suggest you get a manual for your car as it will tell you what pins to cross connect to read the codes on the CEL. As for the missing issue, I suggest that you remove and clean the idle air control motor from the throttle body. Spray the pintle with throttle body cleaner and then replace it. This should help to clean up the idle and take the miss away. You also may want to remove and clean the throttle body as well. Something else to try is a good quality fuel injector cleaner. This will clean the injectors while you drive.
