OK, been working on this 91 PA all week. Changed the lower manifold gaskets, new o-rings on injectors, and next up is the water pump, oil pump and timing chain- as well as a lot of gaskets. Problem- how in the hell does the tensioner assembly come off??? There is a heater pipe attached right in front of one stud at the back of the tensioner assembly which runs into the side of the timing cover. I am assuming the pipe needs to come out to get the tensioner assembly off however it appears you have to get the tensioner off first to pull the pipe out as well. What is holding that pipe into the cover anyway? I don't see any bracket like the other pipe which came off fine at the manifold. Any help on this before I break it would be great. Both Haynes and Chilton manuals just say "remove tensioner assembly" (nothing about having to remove the heater pipes etc)
PS- I have the ps pump moved to the side and also had to take the motor mount (and bracket) completely off. Tis PA is a bitch to work on to say the least. |

Re: Tensioner assembly removal help- 91 PA
well, I guess I gotta take the timing cover off anyway and thats the only way I can see to get the heater pipe off the stud at the tensioner assembly. It has to be pulled straight off with the timing cover I guess, then pulled out of the timing cover. Then tensioner will be clear to remove the last stud/bolt. I hope I just answered my own question. Guess I'll find out Saturday...
