Question Will T-56 allow more top end?

Just wondering if a T-56 will allow more top end than the 700r4. 90 is about the end of 3rd and i know WOT in OD is a bad idea. Just wondering with correct gearing in the rear and T-56 mounted in place of the 700r4, would my 305 have substantially better top end? Just curious, because this may be swap i'll do while in school. I've always wanted a stick, seems so damn fun (except when in heavy traffic it seems).

It will allow for the same top end with better gear ratio and you will get more power to the wheels which will allow for slightly high speed's but you will not turn a 150MPH car into a 170 MPH car just by that swap you may be able to get maybe 5MPH or so.

OK. Just wondering if it would allow higher speeds (although a pretty much stock TPI doesn't like speeds above 90 anyways...). Thanks Formula.

Stick + traffic + 80+ degree temps + Friday evening + cold beer and bbq to get to = insanity.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! One reason to love auto's. Less hassle when it comes to anything. Plus they always shift, in the right and all the time consistently. Lets say if i build up the 700r4, and lets also say i have a built motor aswell. I doing a highway run with a buddy (lets say to 140). Can the it reach these speeds if tuned right? Will it be reached in 3rd or 4th? I ask this because 4th is OD and i heard it was bad to be at WOT in OD, like being at WOT in 6th gear.

On the contrary, when an auto takes a dump, you're screwed, versus you drop a gear in stck, you usually can limp home. And trust me, a auto will die anywhere in any "gear" it wants to.

And 140 on the highway ? what's wroung with you?

Back to your question. "beefing" a auto is really only going to clean up the shift feel and points, and how it will downshift to "pass". You're not going to see any top speed gains.

That is only determined by what the motor's powerband is and final drivetrain ratio.

"bout the overdrive thing, dunno about that, I've heard after a certain lenght of time the 700 goes into OD even if you manually shifted it to 3rd. And besides, worst case scinerio is having to replace the clutch packs, 700's are pretty easy to work on. It just gett'n them in and out.

140 would be 5th gear... trust me i know

that's with 3.42 gears it is, well, also with 4.11's it is 5th gear...

Re: Will T-56 allow more top end?

They are hella heavy. Got 2 spares in the basement. Had to pull one out to get the gear selector bolt, because i broke mine when installing new shift cable for the B&M megashifter. Those things gotta be about 125lbs. They are heavy!!!
