Shelby fuel mileage

I was wondering if someone here could help settle a disagreement. Back in '88, I had a Shelby Daytona that I swear I remember getting like 35+ mpg on the highway. Anyone here ever get anywhere near that?

Talking Close, but not quite....

I have an '86 Shelby Daytona, and the best mileage I have ever seen with this car was on a NY- FL all highway trip a few years back. In the sweet spot (65-70 mph) of my 5 spd car I saw just over 33 mpg. Usually, the car gets 31 or so. I cant see much more than that, unless you ran it on 3 cylinders (ha ha). That was also Sunoco 94 Ultra fuel. Hope this settles your bet

Re: Shelby fuel mileage

you might at 55 mph, but thats awfully high(35mpg). usually turbo 4's from 80's got around 30 to 32 max, with the 5 speed overdrive. You can lower fuel pressure some and increase it to high 30's but be carefull. You dont want to go to lean at full thottle.
