bad jump start

so when i went to my 1986 300zx N/A this morning to start it up, it didnt have any power, like the battery was dead, so my friend came over and we tried to jump it. it didnt work and after a few seconds after that, jumper cables still connected, the little box by the battery started to smoke, im thinking thats the fuse box? idk, is this easy and cheap to fix?

F***?!?!?!?!

easy and cheap, NO! you have a short... you may get lucky and it might have only been 1 fusible link or relay that burnt itself.

what might have happened is that a previous owner thought he was gonna be cheap and replace a fusible link by just crossing over with too thin gauged of a wire or the same with a relay.

as for if your wiring harness is done, that is a body harness and will be difficult but not necessarily costly to replace beings that it isnt a wanted part for this car. just source a parts car and take it out of there. take the whole harness too.

good luck...a few of the Z31 members might have some more info on the subject.
