Re: 01 Windstar Trans Problem - Need Help !!!!
I paid about $1700 (included towing) for a tranny pump shaft replacement on my '99. I can't remember if the part price was $140 or $400.
I now have over 90 k miles on the repair. Your mechanic may be confused by the mis-marked oil pan that Ford used on trannies in '99. If the little stick-on tag is still in place, it shows the actual tranny ID. |

Re: 01 Windstar Trans Problem - Need Help !!!!
It turned out to be the torque converter spline. There are three different sizes of slines and the one deep inside and the smallest was missing all the teeth. The repair was $1450.00 and the next day (today) I took the Winstar to a Hyundai dealer and I now have a XG350 with a great warranty. 10year/100K miles.
Thanks for all the help in this Windstar forum but I don't think you will see me in this forum again ever. I don't use this word “never” offtin because never is a long time but I have had enough with Ford. This Windstar was a real mess and Ford does not treat you at all like these import dealers do. It was a real pleasure buying from Hyundai and if they follow through like they say I will be back to buy another Hyundai. Plus the car seems real solid. I would not have looked at Hyundai’s if my wife did not take me but I am glad she did. |

Re: 01 Windstar Trans Problem - Need Help !!!!
At 53K miles, the trans in our '00 died at a traffic light. Stepped on the gas, heard and felt a clunk, no forward gears.
Had it towed to a trans shop where the rebuilt the whole trans. $ 1850 of which I paid $50 thanks to extended warranty
