D16Y8 swap to ?
I've got $2000-$2500 to either replace or upgrade my the D16 in my 2000 EX. What are my best options for that price?

Re: D16Y8 swap to ?
You can swap to either a B18A2 engine - the one in the SI model...
or...you can buy a nice turbo kit and boost that baby up. I dont know exactly how much each of those costs, but $2500 sounds like it would cover either an engine swap or a turbo fairly easily. The engine swap will be cheaper than a turbo, but the B16A2 engine makes less power (160 HP) than you can get with a turbo (180-200HP on average). The one major disadvantage to turbo, apart from price, is engine stress. If you do decide to go with turbo, make sure you're engine is in tip top shape (i.e. port & polish heads, adjust valves, high flow headers, etc.). The engine swap will give you better reliability though, and also takes less work to install. |

Re: D16Y8 swap to ?
I wouldnt turbo the Y8 cause its a turd of a engine i think, If anything id swap in a d16Z6 turbo it then have it all tuned out cause, theres not much tunning you can do to a obd-2..
B16 is the Si motor, Not sure if you mistyped it and put B18a2 but its B16.. Id just get a Si motor and drop it in if it was me or a b18c1-c5...The Si motor prolly be cheaper... Later |
