2003 Denali Low Lights wont come on

2003 Yukon Denali
6.0 V-8
34,000 miles
No problems in past.

Hoping this is a simple fix. Low lights won't come on. I have auto on lights. I tried turning on manually, no luck. The high beams work, if clicked.Daytime running lights work, rear lights work etc. No damage to vehicle no warning with this issue. I traced the fuses and the rt and lt 10-15amp low headlamp are fine under the hood . I checked the relay, seems to be fine. I'm stumped.

pete

Re: 2003 Denali Low Lights wont come on

you are correct, I just brought it in and they were burnt out. I've never had two bulbs out at once, that threw me one.

thanks for the reply.

Not that you asked me, but roughly $8/bulb at your neighborhood auto parts store...or $20/bulb if you want to go w/ Silverstars.

Re: 2003 Denali Low Lights wont come on

I have been researching bulbs. I know the Denali calls for 9005, but some books say 9006. they look similiar.

how bout the DRL's. all the books are WRONG. GM now calls for a 4114K, and no one carries them except the dealer.

I saw the silver star by sylvania. but sylvania bulbs do NOT last long at all. even the LL bulbs are garbage.

I believe '01-'06 Denalis use 9005 for both low and high beam (I am not 100% sure on '01 and '02, given that I've not personally looked at them in person, but I don't have much reason to believe that the headlight assemblies used in those model years are any different from those used in '03-'06).

GM switched to 4114K in '03 (or was it '04) due to NBS DRL bulbs burning out prematurely. From what I've read, some folks have had success using a 4156 in place of a 4114K; do not use a 3156 bulb though--even though they appear to work, their use was one of the primary reasons why GM switched to 4114K bulbs.

Yeah, Silverstars don't last as long as many typical plain-jane halogen bulbs...but YMMV--some people have reported that theirs have lasted over a year.
