Re: Auto to standard

That would highly depend on your mechanical abilities don't you think...

I mean it would be quite hard to somebody who has never done more than change thier oil and filters. But it would be quite easy for somebody who does tranny and engine swaps on a weekly basis. I would imagine it is relatively the same difficulty as changing any car from auto to standard. Probably not all the difficult if you are familiar with dropping a tranny, but perhaps not a job you should try in your driveway on your own for the first time if you are not highly mechanically inclined.

I don't know for sure, but off the top of my head, you may/will need most of these parts:

manual transmission, clutch, flywheel, shifter + cables/linkage, drilling a hole in teh firewall for a new pedal, master + slave cylinders.
You may need a new starter if they are different.

I havn't done it, but maybe that will give you something to think about.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Your question, or rather the idea, makes absolutely no sense. You have a $3,000 car that you want to you want to spend another $2000 - $3000 on the turn into a 5 speed? That doesn't make much sense. Why dont you just sell the automatic...take the money that you would have spent on all the crap for the swap...and just buy one with a 5 speed in it. Theres more at stake than just mechanicals. You have electrical and computer issues to deal with as well. Basically, if you have to ask on this forum how hard it is you obviously don't have the experience to pull it off. Save yourself alot of hassle and headaches and just buy one with a 5-speed.
