GMC 1997 Savana 5.7 Vortec

I am experiencing a problem, intermittent, where the motor will die at idle speeds, but not all the time. I stop, put it in park, and hit the key, it starts right back up. It is not overheating, has a new battery and top mount terminals (chunked the side post crap in the trash). It also feels like it is hesitating at times, but does not die when motor running at 2K rpm or so. Has many miles, 193,000 but still runs great when it runs. I keep it serviced, and have owned it for 96,000 miles. Also, now when using turn signal, the fuel guage needle jumps each time the turn signals click. The voltage guage is showing a slighter higher (14+) reading that before (constant 13.8) Is this tune up problem, fuel pump, electrical short or what?
Still gets 14+ mpg, everything works, A/C does not seem to have effect on voltage reading, nor do lights on have an effect.
I am Baffled!
2/22/06: Update on the problem: today the motor died once again, same MO, idling, with no A/C on, in traffic. I looked down at the fuel gauge, and it was at the same exact reading as the last time the motor died, about 1/8 full. I suspect I may have problem with fuel filter. Now, just where is that little sucker?

FOUND IT I HOPE! It died on me at 40mph, I restarted it, and it died again. Re-started it, and it died again. Replaced the fuel filter, and so far so good. Thanks for all the advice.
