ebay hks sponge air filter

Does this air filter look like it would be a decent filter or do you think it is a pile? Does anybody have this filter?

Re: ebay hks sponge air filter

See the STYLE part of the name? That means its a knock off and not worth your time. Even if it was a true HKS, I wouldnt get it. I wont mess around with anything but K&N.

That just sounds horrible .

The filter looks like you won't have trouble with it being sucked up but I wouldn't go with it, from what I've heard there no good.

Wow, thank you! I have been looking so hard for another filter test, other than this one http://www.raceweb.co.za/Articles/ai.../induction.htm According to that, the foam filter let in a lot of crap. Some people have questioned the authenticity of that test though. The thing people love about foam filter though is that they sound really good on a turbo car. I have only had experience with the foam ones so I can't say how different it sounds than a normal filter but it does make a nice whooshing noise. I've heard they're just reagular old foam so the knockoff may be made of the same stuff, but I really couldn't tell ya.

There are a bunch of regular type 4.5 in. filters on ebay for $15-$60. You could go with one of those. Just type in "filter 4.5".

Re: ebay hks sponge air filter

I've got the HKS mega flow sponge filter on my car and it flows very well, and i haven't had ANY problems with it getting sucked into the turbo. Get a real one though.

They're just SO much more expensive though. What are they like $250? You can even get a huge K&N for around $60. But I've heard from a couple knowlegeable people that the knockoff paper element ones work exactly the same, and they're like $30 or so.

Btw, that test said there is no reason to get a high flow filter if you aren't very modded. That it will just let in more dirt. And that there will be no hp gain from it.

Re: ebay hks sponge air filter

Some places vary in prices, and i always get good deals on parts through a friend...not gonna say how though..
http://www.dsmtuners.com/parts/produ...42c9528eac6316

And i dont know about the tests but there was a noticeable difference from the stock filter on my car. I'll take my own personal experience over someone elses.

Also you have to realize that most people who would get that filter do it with the intent of knowing that they're going to be modifying their car for high performance so it's not an issue there.

Re: ebay hks sponge air filter

^Same here, I use one on my truck, there is a big difference over stock filter. Sucked when I had a backfire through the carb though (bye bye foam).

Re: ebay hks sponge air filter

So the Ebay one looks like a good thing to buy then because i dont see how there can be that much of a difference between the one with HKS on it.

And theres no way that the foam could get sucked into the turbo so...
