How do I adjust the shift lever on '88 Blazer?

I have an '88 Blazer w/ 203K miles. The engine (2.8L) somehow is totally
quiet and sweet.
I bought this cheap due to a blown front seal. I also replaced the exhaust
manifolds w/ header pipes.
My problem is primarily with the reverse lights. I have a replacement
park/reverse/neutral switch, but I am thinking that the real problem is the
allignment of the shift lever. The "detents" push the indicator way to the
left. I am actually worried about it popping out of park. I have crawled under
it a couple of times to adjust the actual tranny linkage to no avail.
How do I adjust the shift lever? Do I need to yank the steering wheel?
Any info would be much appreciated. It's too cold here for un-neccesary work!

Welcome to AF

Your 2.8L has most of the bugs worked out. They did this in 85/85 by usind a bigger crank main journal.

I can tell you what your shifting problem is right now.

You need a new shift linkage bushing set. Dealer item only from what I can tell.

Have fun with your Blazer, and there is also a Blazer forum on this site as well

I had same prob. Trouble getting colum to go left enough for Park. When in shop for other repairs I couldn't do they said it was easy/quick to readjust at levers at tranny which they did for 10 minute cost. Now it does not quite go all way right for gear 1 but that fine with me.
