could blowoff valve be harmful to ECU??

I was considering putting a BOV on my 01 1.8 turbo jetta, and my friend informed me that this could mess my ecu up... i really want to put one on my car though and was wondering if there was any validity to what he said.
Thank you
Steve

Re: could blowoff valve be harmful to ECU??

it wont harm the ecm, just set a check engine light because the factory set up uses a bypass valve tha re-inserts boost presure into intake charge (its all calculated in ecm) when you vent the boost to atmosphere the computer will pick that up as a boost loss and check light will come on.

i would reccomend a forge or baileys diverter valve and short ram intake.
