Re: Want to move up to Sport Touring
Speak to the insurance company, but basically I think only having comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured motorist cuts your rate by half, but if you wreck your bike, you'd be paying out of your own pocket.

Re: Want to move up to Sport Touring
I'm well aware of it, I've lost two cars to theft with only liability. But if I were to make a claim I don't even want to know what the insurance rates would jump up to. I told the dealership to put it back out on the floor and didn't accept the loan. I can't get a personal loan for the money, tried that. I'm just going to have to pass on the blackbird and live with what I got for another year. Talked to my father to see if I could put it in his name, but insurance would still be over $250/mo and I'm not willing to pay that for something I can only ride 4 months solid through over the course of a year. I'm not willing to pay that for a car either for that matter. I pay all of $26/mo for three bikes right now. I'm selling two this spring because they need new tires and a few other things and i just don't put the miles on em to justify having three anymore. I'll keep the 85 Kaw GPZ550 because I did a full restoration on it, and keep my eyes open for a new second bike. Now a friend of mine has an 04 HD V-Rod and pays $600/yr for full coverage including $8g in accessories. He's unlicensed, his first bike, and has an awful driving record (4 or 5 accidents, 10+ speeding tickets in the course of the 4 years I've known him) I have zero accidents (1, but it wasn't reported) and one speeding ticket 4 years back that I went to traffic school for and isn't on my record (doing 34 in a 30, down a hill...)
So if I purchase a new bike, I guess I have to steer away from sport or sport touring cause of the insurance. Really irritates me that a handful of jackasses have ruined it for sensible riders. Same deal with cars, I wanted to buy a new civic sedan because I love my 95 and the new ones are alot more comfortable and get excellent mileage but the insurance is equal to the car payment, i asked why and was told that its a hot car to modify and its involved in alot more accidents and street racing. A brand new accord is cheaper to insure than the civic... go figure. So, who's got a cruiser to recommend? :-p |

Re: Want to move up to Sport Touring
Suzuki Intruders and Honda Shadows I like the best in the cruiser department. The Kawi Vulcan is a decent one as well...lots to modify and has a real comfortable feel. I personally like the Intruder best though because it feels a bit more sporty as far as cruisers go. I feel like I can lean on the corners a bit more and it has that kick in the ars like an old muscle car...

Re: Want to move up to Sport Touring
What about the V-Max?? That's got the seating arrangement I like, and seems like it could be tossed around. I want to have fun on my bike, not just cruise, and it has to handle highway well. I'm thinking of a vmax with a detachable windshield? This saturday I'm driving out to Joliet IL to look at a triumph Sprint ST. I can insure the sprint for only $100 a month. The Vmax would only be $40/mo but I don't think it looks very comfortable and the styling is stuck mid eighties.
