Ordering Spare Key

I would like to get a spare key for my Blazer. I understand it has a theft deterrent chip inside the key. Can I order a new key online or do I have to get it from a dealer? Would a locksmith be able to program the chip? I would like to be able to shop for the best price before walking into a dealership for a key. Thanks

Re: Ordering Spare Key

I had the spares for my 98 made at a local hardware store for $1 each. The security is built into the switch, not the key.

My spares look like this:

If your keys look like the ones above, there isn't a chip in them.

Re: Ordering Spare Key

I was confusing the Passlock system (which my vehicle has) with the Vats system, (which my vehicle doesn't have.) Thanks for the link Jeremy, my key is double sided and looks like the 16142. Thanks everyone for your reply's
