00 Grand Am SE drivers window

Recently while rolling down my drivers window I heard what sounded like metal breaking and now my window will not roll up (it will roll down). Does anyone know what this could be and if it easily repaired. This is an electric window.

I'm a first time poster and I want to thank the everyone who helps,
Eric

Welcome to AF!!

It sounds like the window regulator has broken or the motor has gone bad. You will need to take the door panel off to get to the regulator. If it is broken you can purchase one on e-bay or find one at a local wrecking yard much cheaper than purchasing a new one.

Re: 00 Grand Am SE drivers window

Grand am window motors are known for going out, sometimes its the motors that get weak, but in your case it sounds like something broke in the window motor assembly. Any autoparts store sells the replacement window motor assembly. Thats your easiest out. I had a weak motor in mine, tore it apart and found the motor was the same as a spare ford van motor I had laying around, I was able to swap some motor parts from one to the other and get mine back up and running. I don't think there are very many window motor manufactures out there, or I got real lucky having one made by the company laying around.

good luck and let me know if you have specific questions, also a haynes manual should give you detailed instructions for this replacement.
