No Turn Signal / Hazard Lights

Please make suggestions or offer advice.
98 Passat has no turn signals or hazard lights. Fuses are fine. Replace the Hazard Switch. ($35 US, pretty simple to do). Still no change.

One strange observation is that when using the remote lock / unlock doo-hickey, (the one we all have on our key rings), the turn signals flash during the locking and unlocking. So the bulbs, fuses, wiring, etc seems like it must be good, and therefore it must be the switch.
But I just bought a switch at the local VW dealer and put it in.

And now I should.....?

Re: No Turn Signal / Hazard Lights

OK. I'm a moron. It was the hazard switch / relay. When I first installed it, I didn't seat it well enough into the harness. I pulled it back out, secured it properly into the harness, and all's fine now, except my ego.
FYI - The easiest way to get the hazard switch out is to pop out the blank switch plate cover just beneath it (assuming that you have a blank below it - every Passat I've ever been is has a blank there). The blank pops out real easy, and then you can easily get leverage to get the switch out. I pulled the harness out too, and seated the new switch securely into the harness before I slid the switch back in.
Now that I know what I'm doing, this is indeed a 2 minute job.

I'm having the same problem. It started this past weekend and is intermittant. I would like to know the location of the relay.

Re: No Turn Signal / Hazard Lights

its the actual 4-way emergency switch next to the radio. Its the relay for the turn signals/flashers
