Should I Buy A Cobalt? [yes or no]
i'm 19, in and out of college, working steadily and i like small sporty american vehicles. i have an 89 2 door cavalier and i want something a bit bigger but still sporty and i want a 2 door. i would get a cavalier but i don't like the recent designs of them. would you reccommend a cobalt? anything i should be warned of? does it handle well? fast? good acceleration? thanks in advance.

The base model Cobalts would be a great replacement for your current car. You can get one for around $14,000 US which is a pretty good deal. The standard 2.2 liter Ecotec comes with 145-150 BHP (rated at the crank) and is pretty peppy, although it's no nascar. I was also surprised at how well the base models handled. Overall a very nice car for the money.
I'd say shop around for a bit, then if you don't find something that's a much better deal that you like, then get one.

i just saw somewhere that the Cobalt made the list as the least reliable compact car.
that said, i remember when i bought my '95 S-10, it was also listed low on the reliability ratings, however its been the best, most reliable truck a person could ask for. |

i have a base model 2 door cobalt, i love it. i have been in and out of the dealer in the 6 months ive had my ride for little things (seatbelt locking up, window crank falling off, etc etc) it is from the first year of this cars production so its no big deal.
it is fun to drive. i havent driven many super fast cars, this is the most peppy car ive driven, not necessarily the fastest, but the quickest to accelerate and the most fun. my suggestion is to put new tires on it though. in the summertime i hydroplane over small bits of water and also over gravel. in the winter im slipping and sliding everywhere. otherwise, its a sweet inexpensive little ride. and the newest cavvies (which are not being made anymore) have got NOTHING on the cobalt. Its roomier, cozier, not so cheapcheap everywhere, more comfy seats etcetera.

Funny I have 4,000 mile on my 05 base coupe and have had one problem... a small piece of trim on the decklid pops out if I close the trunk too hard. Got out the heat gun and 40 seconds later it was fixed.
The hydroplaning issue is due to the craptastic tires we get from the factory. I have a set of 195/65r15 Goodyear Assurance Featuring Triple Tred Technology tires on my steel wheels for the winter... not cheap but fan freaking tastic in the rain and snow.

Hey! I just brought home an 06 LS Black coupe yesterday. Name:Gina. I so love this car, have what I need - CD/Air/5-sp, don't need all those other gadgets.
Something that I was pleasantly suprised about - When I took the test-drive, I drove avenue/thruway type roads. Last nite, I took a drive 'up the Grove', a chip-sealed, winding rural road. The Co really shines on these types of roads. The 5-sp works nice, the 2.2L is great after 3500RPM, and the car is a looker for sure. 10 times the car of my old Cavvy. Yes! Try one! Buy one! Ciao |

Newbs *slaps forehead* He pops his tires and blames GM. Yea that sounds pretty retarded to me. Another thing do you think that Honda, Acura, VW, Mercedes, Volvo and all the rest wont get a vehicle with problems. Every vehicle is mass produced theres bound to be a few bad cars. Its just a way of life.

I'm a previous Cav owner ('96 2.2L) and bought my '05 Cobalt (5 speed, base model, 2-door coupe 2.2L) 4 months ago when I smashed up my Cav. I loved my Cav even with all the little quirks it had, but I can't say enough about the Cobalt. It's quick, tons of fun to drive, and the mileage I get is amazing. No bells and whistles on mine (yet) but overall 1000% better than the Cavs. Mine was $15096, anout 3K more than the new Cavs, and worth every penny extra. Sure, it has some small issues (window rubber, ignition key problem, etc) but all warranted and expected on a first year. No big deal. I have yet to find a car that I enjoy driving as much!
